Globe: Network Upgrade 30% Complete!

2012

telcotroll.comThe modernization of Globe’s network is already 30% complete, all in four months! Yup, rolling out new equipment aint easy, but it’s getting done, slowly and surely!

Robert Tan, Globe chief technical adviser:

“We are fast-tracking certain areas to address strong consumer demand and clamor for better services. Overall, we are on target with the roll-out plan… Our goal is to have seamless change-outs of the network with as minimal impact on customer experience as possible. The improvements in our service quality will be felt by our customers in an increasing number of areas across the country as the network upgrade progresses towards completion.”

Where o Where Can we Experience a Fresh Fruity Globe?

  • Most of South Luzon (There’s a specific area list of this in this blog somewhere. The Troll is sure it’s in one of its posts)
  • The Davao Gulf provinces, this covers Davao City and Compostela Valley and generally the surrounding areas. Davao City in particular will now enjoy new-generation mobile systems that support high-speed data access.

Benefits! We Want Benefits!

  • A significantly enhanced 3G footprint – for the layman, this means a better, more stable 3G signal which is equal to a better mobile web browsing experience.
  • Quick call connections (making dropped calls a thing of the past)
  • And the most important benefit of all – faster and greater access to UNLImited offers! No more “please try again later” crap when you try to register!

Globe declared that more subscribers will be able to experience service improvements by the third quarter of 2012.

I’d like to ask for the areas where the Globe modernization is done. It’s saying Cebu is part of it, however for the past month my 3G connection couldn’t hold steady for more than a minute. I’m not the only one complaining, as a number of us signed up for the unlimited internet mobile plan at the start of the year. We haven’t had any complaints, until we received word that an upgrade will be happening.

Perhaps the best thing to do would be to release a timeframe for the upgrade to finish per location. That would definitely calm me down since I would have something to look forward to. Unlike now, as I hear news that the upgrade is done in Cebu, but I’m left with crappier service as compared to when it wasn’t done yet.

Hello Joseph,

Good Day! Well, the Troll ain’t sure if Metro Cebu and its outlying areas is already upgraded; please check some of its older posts :-)

In the meantime, below are the reasons as to why you may have a snail pace 3G connection:

1. Location-location-location. Even if the signal is strong, if your in the parking lot basement, in a fast moving car or in a room with concrete walls and no window – your 3G signal would be very weak (more so if your room is surrounded by concrete buildings). Also, if your home is located on the border of two towns, then there is a possibility that the signal will be weak due to the distance of cell sites from your location (the Troll isn’t sure about the configuration of Globe sites, but this may be the reason why).

2. Throttling. This is a telco dirty secret. you may have signed up for unlimited internet, but once you reach a certain level (say for example – you consume 10 gig of data already), the telcos switch you on a slower internet connection up until the next bill cycle. Yup, it sucks.

3. Don’t believe the ads; its not 1mbps all the time, the ads say up to 1mbps.

But the best thing to do is go to a Globe store and complain in a calm and collected manner. If they don’t fix your problem in a couple of days, then have your line cut and insist that you wont pay any termination fee’s because Globe, for its part, did not deliver on its promise of a fast 3G connection (Tell them your moving to Smart – this should make them panic). Also, while at the store, ask about the modernization activity in Cebu – you might learn more than what is available in the papers.

Good luck!
The Troll
