Time to put a stop to data bill shock!
The NTC has ordered Globe and Smart/Sun to inform subscribers of their data roaming fees! The regulator ordered the three telcos to make sure that subscribers are fully informed, through text alerts and voice calls or other means, of the rates and conditions of data access on roaming.
The NTC has advised subs, specifically those who intend to go overseas for the holidays, to take an active role in understanding the rates and conditions of using roaming on their respective networks. Note that data roaming rates are significantly higher than what is charged locally.
NTC Statement:
“Make sure that you know the procedure on how to opt in (turn on) to avail of data roaming services or opt out (turn off) to stop using the data roaming services. You are advised to coordinate with your service provider and get information on how to ensure that your devices are turned off or not connected to the Internet when not in use.”
